08/13/2007 - Moosic, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Justin Bolli shot a five-under 66 Sunday to win the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic, his first Nationwide Tour victory in three years.
Bolli birdied two of his last three holes to post a 14-under 270, then backed into the win when third-round leader Richard Johnson double-bogeyed the 17th hole.
"Going into today, I thought a win was possible, but a lot of it depended on how the leaders played," said Bolli, who won $90,000. "If they go out and play well, then I'm playing for second or third. I guess that's the way the game works."
Johnson closed with a one-over 72 to share second place with Patrick Sheehan (68) at 13-under 271. He entered the final round Sunday with a one-shot lead, looking for his first win since 2000.
Garth Mulroy had a four-under 67 and led a group of four players who tied for fourth place at 10-under 274. Jim McGovern (69), Jason Allred (71) and D.A. Points (74) joined him there.
Bolli made an early birdie at the second hole, but didn't get going in earnest until he strung together four straight birdies from the ninth. Bogeys at 13 and 15 followed, but he got those shots back with his birdies at the 16th and 18th.
Of course, he wouldn't have won had Johnson not knocked his approach shot at the 17th into a creek, resulting in double-bogey.
"I feel for Richard because I've certainly been there before. You have to feel for the guy, but at the same time I played well today," Bolli said. "Richard is a very good player and it's only a matter of time before he gets a victory of his own this year."
Bolli's last win came at the 2004 Chattanooga Classic. He had two runner-up finishes this season prior to Sunday.
The win moved Bolli to No. 6 on the Nationwide Tour money list, comfortably inside the top 25 -- where players at the end of the season receive a bump to the PGA Tour.
"It's a good feeling," said Bolli, who played his rookie year on the PGA Tour in 2005. "Last year, I was pretty close and didn't play well towards the end of the year. I wasn't quite ready for the PGA Tour the last time, but I'm excited to get back to that level."
